Getting Internet From Your House to a Greenhouse
Climate sensors, automated vents, and grow-cam streaming. Typically short range and tolerates humidity-rated gear.
Greenhouses need internet for climate sensors (temperature, humidity, soil moisture), automated venting and shade control, supplemental lighting schedules, and increasingly, time-lapse grow cameras. What makes greenhouses unique: the humidity inside is brutal on electronics.
The backhaul to the greenhouse is easy โ under 100 ft is typical, so a LiteBeam pair or a short buried ethernet run works fine. The install challenge is inside: any gear you mount inside the greenhouse needs to tolerate constant 80% humidity and occasional water spray.
Solve the humidity problem by keeping electronics in a sealed junction box with a desiccant, or by mounting the AP outside the greenhouse pointed at the glass. Sensor hubs (Hubitat, Home Assistant Yellow) can go in a garage or shop and read radios inside.
