Privacy Policy
Last updated: April 17, 2026
Outbuilding Internet ("we", "us") operates outbuildinginternet.com. This page explains what data we collect, why, and what we do with it.
Short version
- We don't sell your data.
- We don't run ad networks.
- We earn a commission when readers buy gear through our Amazon links.
- We use Google Analytics to understand which articles help. That does set a cookie; see below.
Information we collect
Automatic information
When you visit the site, our hosting provider and analytics receive:
- Your IP address (truncated for analytics)
- The page you requested
- The page that referred you (if any)
- Your browser type, OS, and viewport size
- Timestamps of your visit
Information you give us
If you contact us by email, we receive whatever you send (your email address, message content, and any attachments). We only use it to respond.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-4CSV6WV1PH) to understand which articles readers actually find, how they get here, and which pages aren't working. Google Analytics sets cookies on your browser (typically _ga and _ga_*) to measure returning vs. new visitors and aggregate session data. Google processes this data under its own terms. We have enabled IP anonymization where supported.
We do not run any advertising networks or retargeting pixels on the site. The only third-party services that receive data about your visit are:
- Vercel — our hosting provider (receives the standard access-log data needed to serve the page)
- Google Analytics — as described above
- Amazon — only when you click an affiliate product link (you're then on amazon.com, subject to Amazon's privacy policy)
If you want to opt out of Google Analytics across the web, you can install Google's official opt-out browser add-on.
Affiliate links
Outbuilding Internet is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
When you click an affiliate link on our site, a small tracking parameter (tag=outbuildinginternet-20) is appended to the Amazon URL. If you go on to purchase something on Amazon during your session, Amazon may pay us a commission. You pay the same price either way. Amazon handles that traffic and any data collected on amazon.com under its own privacy policy.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
Data retention
Google Analytics retains user-level data for 14 months by default, after which it is aggregated. Email correspondence is kept as long as is useful for supporting the reader who sent it.
Children
The site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Your rights
If you're in the EU, UK, or California, you have rights under GDPR/CCPA including the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Because we collect almost nothing, these requests are usually trivial. Email us (see the Contact page) and we'll handle it.
Changes
If we materially change this policy, we'll update the "last updated" date above and note what changed at the top of the page.
